Sustainability Snapshots

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in the diversity of our environmental initiatives.

Managing sustainable outcomes

  • We have initiated an Energy and Greenhouse Management Strategy.
  • During 2007 and 2008, a review of existing energy data was carried out to determine if the business triggered reporting requirements. As an outcome, Spotless will be reporting under the Energy Efficiency Opportunity Act and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act.
  • The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (Carbon Trading Scheme) is expected to be implemented in 2010.
  • Our Environmental Management System meets the requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001:2004 in Australia.
  • Environmental Management System (EMS) training is delivered to key employees within all our operations.
  • Spotless, through the AGFMS contract (Across Government Facilities Management Services) in South Australia, provides facilities management services to over 750 sites. We promote an Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) and Whole of Life (WOL) approach in the delivery of these works.

Buying green pays off

In line with our commitment to the sustainable use of resources, Spotless in Australia began buying a portion of electricity as green energy. Green energy is generated from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro-electric and landfill biomass. Green energy is much cleaner than traditional electricity, with significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

Driving fuel efficiencies

Our move to a new vehicle-maker for our Australian fleet will provide more fuel-efficient vehicles, in turn delivering environmental benefits and cost savings. In our major street sweeping contract with Melbourne City Council, we are currently trialling bio-diesel blended fuels in equipment and vehicles.

Building on our green initiatives

As we continue to build our presence in total facilities management, particularly in the important Public-Private Partnership market, environmentally friendly building design and operation is of increasing importance to the community and to our customers. To enhance our technical capability in this area, Spotless is an active member of the Green Building Council of Australia.
