We have focused on leading the way with new water saving innovations in our Laundry Services business, which supplies and washes linen and workwear for Australian and New Zealand industry.
In a business that processes 90,000 tonnes of laundry per year, our commitment to adopting water saving technology and techniques is certainly making a significant difference, with 170 million litres of water saved on average each year.
Examples of some of our achievements include:
- Water and heat recovery systems in our long term laundry plants have achieved a 35 per cent reduction in water usage and a 10 per cent saving in energy.
- One plant alone has reduced water consumption by just under 50 per cent.
- The New South Wales Government’s Water Savings Fund has supported Spotless with three custom-designed Aquamiser systems. These have been installed to reclaim water and waste heat from our laundry washing equipment – estimated to save 100 million litres of water a year and reduce energy use by 5 per cent.
- Federal Government support in South Australia funded the installation of an Aquamiser to recycle water and heat during the washing process. The plant processes 250,000 kilograms of linen per week, translating to a saving of 50 million litres of water per year.
- Our commercial laundries have reduced the use of water by 50 per cent over 10 years in Australia.
- As a group we are continually exploring and investing in opportunities to further reduce water and energy use. A 6 per cent reduction in energy use has been achieved to date.
