The Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre is one of three large State Government facilities for youth justice training and detention in Victoria. The existing ageing facility required a new development to increase resident capacity and improve the range of onsite services.
Nuvo Group was successfully selected by Cockram Construction from a full public tender to deliver the $4.6 million electrical, technology and data packages. Nuvo’s extensive Government facilities track record and credentials were vital in being awarded the packages.
Nuvo undertook a full design and construct contract over 14 months to create a completely new standalone detention facility. Six new buildings were constructed including a new gatehouse, three residential blocks, a recreational facility, and an education wing.
Stringent adherence to protocol was conducted and a special focus was placed on antivandalism measures when putting in place the suite of high security and technology throughout the operational detention facility. Full fibre circuits and CBUS technology with redundancy were required to ensure that security systems were highly robust and uninterruptible.
A key project delivery requirement was a compressed timeline that required all six buildings of the new facility to be constructed simultaneously. Nuvo’s streamlined project methodology ensured that a highly complex construction with many specialist subcontractor packages being delivered concurrently was delivered within time, to budget and specification.
