In 2017, EPICURE signed a contract with Australia’s most iconic wildlife park, Taronga Zoo. For the next five years, the EPICURE team will provide high-quality catering and hospitality services at the Zoo and the Taronga Centre located on Sydney’s spectacular harbour.
Sustainability is a key component of the partnership, which sets benchmarks in environmental practice and innovation for the Australian hospitality and tourism industries. Working closely with Spotless Sustainability Services, EPICURE liaises with Taronga Zoo to improve the site’s renewable energy supply, asset performance and sustainability infrastructure.
Each year, more than 1.5 million people visit the Zoo, part of the State Government. Reducing reliance on single-use plastic packaging for food at Taronga is also a primary focus. Plastic-free, recyclable packaging for food and biodegradable tableware are some of the initiatives being introduced to progress towards the Zoo’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2025. Additionally, the use of sustainable palm oil for cooking will be a significant contribution to preserving habitats for wildlife at risk of extinction.
Taronga and EPICURE will establish a dedicated sustainability fund to provide financial support for Taronga’s environmental sustainability initiatives, ensuring that they are long-lasting.
